Piet de Roos
I have been working at Snijder as a mechanic for their projects abroad since 2006. I now work at their site in Hoorn (since 2011). I have worked in Qatar, Suriname, India and Angola. Working in Angola was the nicest job. I resided there for nearly two years. First, I filled in a piece of land and six months later, we worked on a landing for a gas pipeline. I didn’t have much time to explore the country, but during the daily ride from our hotel to the project location, we did see some of the surroundings. It is rather special to work at these types of faraway destinations.
Working here in Hoorn is also great for me. I spend my days revising and modifying machines that will be used in new projects. That suits me fine. I have all my tools at hand and I eat at home every evening.
Daan Wolkers
Daan Wolkers came in 2002, through his mechanic training at the SOMA College, in the workshop of Snijder. In the meantime he has climbed up to a first mechanic. This does not mean only repairing a machine from a to z but also supervising student mechanics. “I like to accompany students in their work because I started as a trainee myself.
It is nice to work for a company that operates 24/7. Okay, it is not ideal to get out of bed in the middle of the night, when you have an interference service, because a machine has stopped. But it gives a good feeling to get that machine back up and running again before the beginning of that day.
I like that Snijder is a company where customers have special wishes and we can realize them. Here in Hoorn, The Netherlands, we make the drawings, the machine is being built, blasted and sprayed, the hydraulics are built on it and specially adapted to the project.
We do it all by ourselves. Which I am very proud of.

In 2009, Snijder has set itself the goal to stimulate physical activity through a program – SnijderFit.
The starting point is to have fun together while practicing a sport and meanwhile to stay healthy, fit and excited.
This has led to a running team consisting of 10% of the employees. They participate in various running events every year.
Beside that, coworkers participate in other sports such as cycling, mountain biking, motor cross, but also “regular” sports such as fitness, tennis, badminton and so on. More information? visit www.snijderfit.nl
